Sant Julià d'Espui

Sant Julià d'Espui

Description

This was originally a single nave church, with the apse to the east. It has undergone several transformations, especially in the north and east sections. The less damaged part and therefore the one showing more of the original Romanesque works, are the west façade and the belfry. It is a rural church of the 11th century, following the construction lines of the Pyrenees Romanesque churches, such as the ones in the Vall de Boí.

History

The church of Sant Julià was visited by the Tarragona archbishop delegates in 1314. This is the first written reference about the temple.
