Baixada de falles (Downhill torch run)

Baixada de falles (Downhill torch run)

Description

The tradition of the Falles dates from the 1950s, when la Pobla de Segur was the economic and tourist centre of this Pyrenean region.

There is no exact time for the run, as it starts when the sun goes down, but it is expected approximately around 21:30 in the evening. The youngsters of the town march in line with torches from the nearby mountain of Santa Magdalena to the town, where the young girls are waiting with cake and wine as a reward. They then go to the church for an offering and worship to the Virgin. The closing of this emblematic Pallars festival consists of a big Sardanes ball.
