Walled village of Salàs

La vila closa de Salàs

Description

This is one of the villages in the Pallars region that has better kept its old medieval structure, with four entrance towers to the fortified area, three watchtowers in a good state of conservation and a porched square right in the middle of the village. Here you will see a lot of old houses with coats of arms on their doors. The parish church of the Mare de Déu del Coll, at one end of the village, has a high and narrow façade, with a square belfry tower and a voussoired portal.

As a curiosity it is known that several of the old houses in Salàs were connected through their cellars, and that made it possible to move and hide during war times.
