DESCRIPTION
We leave the cabin of Filià and go up the river of Filià in a west-southwest direction through the sunny and open fields.
At an altitude of 2100 m we turn to the north-west and face the wide valley of the Coma Palomera following it through the center. If the snow is stable, we continue to climb towards the north and reach the somital ridge at approximately altitude 2600. If the snow is unstable, it is necessary not to leave the northwest direction and to access the ridge first without exceeding the 30 degree slope. Once on the ridge, we follow it to the top. We will descend through the coma de les Fuses in a south-easterly direction. We leave the summit for shovels that are close to 40 degrees of inclination and that we need to be sure of the stability of the snow. In case of doubt, from the summit we will continue along the ridge in a north-east direction and descend through Coma l’Empriu where the terrain is much more open and the slopes do not exceed 30 degrees at any time.
SAFETY AND PRACTICAL ADVICE
The route mostly runs through Simple and Demanding terrain. Only above 2500 m, both on the ascent and descent, there are areas of Complex terrain that need to be assessed and avoided in unstable conditions. It is advisable to avoid this route on days with a High or Very High avalanche risk where there is a probability of large natural avalanches, as the open slopes that are crossed facilitate the significant path of avalanches, which could reach the bottom of the ravines. The sunny aspect of both the ascent and descent means that in spring and during periods of high temperatures, we should start early and finish the route before noon to avoid problems with wet snow.
