Tremp

Tremp is the capital of the Pallars Jussà region and the gateway to the Pyrenees. Together with around 30 other villages, it forms the largest municipality in Catalonia in extension.

Tremp is the main commercial and service hub of the area, and it hosts as well a rich historical, cultural and natural heritage. The most important buildings are the collegiate church of Santa Maria de Valldeflors (11th century), which having undergone several transformations presents nowadays a late Gothic style. Other places of interest are the old hospital from the 16th century or the Romanesque Sant Jaume bridge, refurbished in the beginning of the 18th century.

The Epicentre is a visitor centre where you can find information about the large heritage of the region. Another interesting museum is the Casal Pare Manyanet, dedicated to the figure of Josep Manyanet, born in Tremp and canonized in 2004.

Tremp means tradition as well. Do not miss one of the most important festivities in the Pallars Jussà: the Dance of Contrapàs, celebrated on the 17th of January.

Throughout the municipality you will find villages that have kept the essence of the past, abandoned towns in ruins, medieval towers, Romanesque hermitages and a large number of popular architectural elements to evidence the traces of mankind in this region.
